The latest photos landing on Crackberry suggest a gold version of BlackBerry’s Passport phone is on the horizon; the fan site CrackBerry posted the images, but the site was unable to confirm if the gold device is a special edition from BlackBerry, or a makeover carried out by a separate entity.

Blackberry, the once mighty device manufacturer has released gold editions of its handsets in the past, so it’s perfectly possible that it’s going to do the same with its new Passport phone in the hope that cashed up business executives will be looking for a bit of luxury and that they might throw some extra cash at Blackberry.

The standard version of the new Passport was released toward the end of last month, selling 200k units in its first few days upon release. Even though this might look rather meagre when you compare it to Apple who took 10 million orders for its new iPhone over its first week, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Passport, with its enterprise-oriented applications, is aimed mainly at the World of business .

The Passport with its notable 4.5-inch square display, features a three-row QWERTY keyboard which also functions as a touch pad and the new handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, comes with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of SSD storage, and an 8-megapixel rear camera. BlackBerry CEO John Chen has revamped the company since taking control of it almost a year ago, and aims to get it back into the green by late 2016 or early 2017.

The Gold Passport might be the turning point that would lead to the realization of that, but who knows?
